I figured I through in my own tin foil hat theory into the mix of this subreddit. While I was logging the new My Nintendo Rewards that were unveiled for Super Mario Run (because for some reason, I like to keep a spreadsheet of all the rewards available and sorted by expiration date and price to keep track of what I can and cannot get yet…but anyway), I noticed that there were also some new discounts added. As I logged those, I noticed that all of them (discounts for VC games) had an expiration date of 3/16/2017 at 2:00 AM EST…
Except one, and interestingly, it was the only Nintendo 3DS reward. The Wii U version of NES Open Tournament Golf, along with all the other new Wii U VC discount rewards, as the expiration date as mentioned above, but the Nintendo 3DS version of it expires four days earlier on 3/12/2017 at 2:00 AM EST. Also, of all the rewards, these are the only that expire on these days.
Could this mean that they had scheduled those rewards to expire on March 16, 2017, just in time to have the Nintendo Switch and any new rewards related to it and its software launch the next day on March 17, 2017?
I'll let you decide.
