Alright Tech-heads, help me out. Difference between charging in dock vs. charging via “plug.”

I haven't seen this discussed yet but I could be wrong. How will the Switch determine whether it is being connected to the dock or the mobile charger since it will be inserted through the same USB-C port? I know Spawn News Wave on YouTube (love this guys channel) spoke about maybe a magnet in the dock that will help "communicate" with the Switch that it's docked. I guess this is interesting because would the Switch not "unlock" itself from under performing at 720 when being charged since it is not running off battery at that point?

Discussion and answers are helping for sure. Summary: how will the Switch know HOW (by what means) it's being charged and how to perform?
