I don't mean literally. On the 3DS and Wii U, the power button brings the game to a screeching halt, even in situations where the home button is locked. There's no opportunity to save.
What they should do is instead have behavior comparable to PCs: The power button sends a request to the game that it needs to save, put itself in a shutdown-ready state, then reply to the system that it's good, at which point the power is cut. Only holding the button will force the power to cut, just in case the game froze or such.
This post has absolutely nothing to do with the number of time's resetti has screamed at me or how I lost some pokemon progress this week absentmindedly. Not a thing.
