I’m not getting the Switch at Launch, and I’m actually pretty excited about that

It's not that I'm not a fan, or am being overly cautious. It's just that I'm a college student and won't have the money to buy one until I go back to my summer job. That being said, here are some reasons I'm hyped about not getting the Switch in March:

1. Refurbished Market

Obviously, there will be no refurbished consoles on launch. Consoles need to be sent back for that. But after a few months, Nintendo-refurbished consoles will start to appear. That means cheaper products without any of the consequences (since Nintendo refurbished products are good as new).

2. Pack-in Bundles

I'm not sure when the first at-MSRP bundle was for the Wii U, but given time you'll eventually see pack-in bundles like this one and this one and this one. Now, these may take a year or two to start appearing (need time for component price drops to raise the profit margin), but there might be one or two available by mid to late summer.

3. Not waiting for software updates

If any game like Splatoon 2 or BotW needs a few weeks or a month to push out game patches to fix framerate issues or glitches, all of that will be sorted out by the time I get my copies.

4. Much healthier launch lineup

Pretty obvious. There are several games I look forward to playing on the Switch (My Splatoon 2 hype can deorbit small moons), and having them all available at the time of getting my console will be great.

5. Game reviews will be in

I'm very reticent to pre-order anything. I'm fairly lucky and have never been seriously burned, but I know the stories and heed their warnings. Being able to see the reviews on Snipperclips, MK8 Deluxe, Lego City Undercover, and Arms will help me decide what I should spend my money on.

I'm not saying waiting is better, and I'm not saying people who buy day one are making a mistake. I probably would have pre-ordered if I had the money to throw around. Buying on launch day has its perks too (more time to play, taking full advantage of the free online service period, etc.). I just want to say to anyone out there who's been hesitant about dropping $500 on the Switch (console + controllers + games), know there are benefits to waiting a bit.
